This noir exploration of immigrants, this compelling story delves into the lives of immigrants in the early 20th century. We follow Temmy from her dysfunctional childhood through her decisions that brought her to the seedy underbelly of the Jewish mafia.
It’s refreshing to see a novel that deals with the Mafia without glorifying it. We see the damage that it caused and how during that time they were able to prey on the vulnerabilities of the newly landed immigrant population.
