I love a good Epistolary novel (novels that consist of letters). There is something so intimate about them. There is no background noise, just the characters moving the plot forward.
Last Christmas in Paris is just that. The chaos of World War I is stripped away leaving us with this intimate conversation. You can still feel the bombs in the background but all you hear are Tom and Evie. Through their letters you watch a relationship grow. Though there are other people’s letters interspersed within the book the real stars are Evie and Tom.
In between the letters, there is a beautifully written prose from the perspective of Tom that just melts your heart.
This book is an easy read that pulls you in. I know, it helped me through a crappy flight from Paris to London. It’s the perfect book for the upcoming holiday season.
Thanks for your thoughts and the post. Looking forward to reading Last Christmas in Paris.
